RSA Frugal Packaging Solution

Frugal Packaging
A Burst Pouch can be given as a frugal packaging solution containing one part powder formula, and one part water. The pouch contains one dosage of medication, available in two sizes with different water quantities depending on the level of infection: for moderate infections 5ml of water, for severe infections 10ml. Because the medication has not been diluted it doesn’t require refrigeration, and the packaging creates minimum waste.
Medication Instructions
-
Apply pressure to the marked area to break the burst seal.
-
Push the water towards the second chamber containing the powder formula.
-
Move the mixture using your fingers till the substances are evenly mixed.
-
Remove the protective cap on the top, and consume imminently.
Storage
Each storage box can contain approximately, 624 Pneumonia Antibiotic Pouches of Amoxicillin Oral Suspension and 20 A4 Printed Instructions. As the pouches take very limited space each storage box can serve up to 20 patients. In addition, within it we can store the printed instructions.
Distribution
The medication will be given only by charities such as Unicef, Aid for Africa and Medical Bridges. By doing this, the work load for hospitals will be reduced and the charities will prevent counterfeit.
Additional Support
The charities’ staff will teach the patients how to use the packaging to make sure that the medication is taken correctly. Therefore, the initial dosage will always be taken with the help of a doctor or nurse. Thereafter, they will provide the rest of the dosages (pouches) in a kit (paper bag), along with the leaflet explaining to the patients the importance of completing the treatment of antibiotics, side effects and dosage instructions.
